Nigerian comedian and actor Okey Bakassi has lashed out at the originator of a viral divorce story involving his wife, dismissing the report as fake news and insisting that his marriage remains intact.
The veteran entertainer, whose real name is Okechukwu Onyegbule, described the report as disturbing and disrespectful, accusing its promoter of spreading falsehood to attract views and generate viral content.
The viral video reportedly claimed that his wife was seeking a divorce after 15 years of him taking care of her and their children in the United States.
However, Bakassi dismissed the allegation, revealing that he and his wife recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Canada.
In a post on his Instagram page on Monday, the actor urged his family, friends and fans to disregard the report, insisting that there was no crisis in his marriage.
“It’s so disrespectful and sad that, out of desperation to get views or create viral content, someone will go to the extent of spreading fake news about my very happy family,” he wrote.
“Please, my family, friends and fans, disregard any story that my wife and I are having issues. It’s the work of evil, senseless people.”
Bakassi also faulted claims that his wife lives in Canada and works as a nurse, describing the information circulating online as false.
He called on social media users to report the account responsible for spreading the allegation on X, formerly Twitter, for allegedly violating the platform’s rules.
“My family is intact and in God’s hands,” the comedian declared.
To reinforce his position, Bakassi shared a video from the couple’s 25th wedding anniversary celebration, pushing back against speculation about the state of their relationship.
Last week, the actor marked the silver jubilee with a video collage featuring himself, his wife and their three children.
Reflecting on their journey, he recalled how they first met, how their pursuit of higher education separated them, and how they eventually reunited.
He explained that their anniversary celebration was not about setting records or proving critics wrong but about appreciating their journey and reaffirming their decision to build a life together.
During their 20th wedding anniversary, Bakassi had also reflected on the challenges they faced, recalling that many people had doubted their relationship.
He praised his wife for their years of love, sacrifice, friendship and tolerance, highlighting the commitment that had sustained their union.
