Mystery surrounds the gruesome death of an unidentified woman whose body was discovered inside a church premises in the Obelewo area of Osogbo, Osun State, with her left wrist allegedly cut off and taken away.
The shocking discovery has raised fears of a possible money ritual, although the police have not established any link between the killing and ritual activities.
The Nigeria Police Force said detectives were deployed to the scene after the woman’s body was discovered and commenced preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, initial findings indicated that the woman had been brutally killed, with her left wrist severed and removed by unidentified persons.
The gruesome nature of the killing, particularly the disappearance of the severed hand, has fuelled speculation that the incident could be connected to ritual activities.
However, police authorities have yet to confirm the motive or establish whether the missing body part was taken for ritual purposes.
The police said efforts were ongoing to identify the deceased and determine exactly what happened before her death.
Her remains have since been deposited at a hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to provide further clues about the cause and circumstances of her death.
The State Command’s Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case as detectives intensify efforts to unravel the mystery and track down those responsible for the killing.
Police authorities also appealed for relevant information that could assist investigators in identifying the deceased and solving the case.
