Television personality and media entrepreneur, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has celebrated billionaire businessman Femi Otedola on his 63rd birthday, recalling a childhood experience involving their fathers that offered a glimpse into how wealthy families raised their children.
Afolabi-Brown, who is currently building a new empire in television production, said she had been exploring the past to learn from her late father, renowned lawyer Alao Aka-Bashorun, and his friends who successfully raised wealthy children.
In a birthday tribute to Otedola, she recalled the close friendship between her father and Michael Otedola, a former Governor of Lagos State and father of the billionaire businessman.
According to her, Michael Otedola had repeatedly urged her father to stop sending her brother, Dipo, to Kano by train to attend school, pointing out that his own son, Rotimi, popularly known as Otesko Stone, travelled by air.
Her father eventually accepted the advice but later discovered that both boys had been selling their plane tickets and travelling by train instead so they could have extra money to spend while in school.
The discovery reportedly earned Dipo a hot slap from their father.
Reflecting on the incident, Afolabi-Brown wondered whether her father had concerns that growing up with wealth could expose a child to criminal tendencies.
She, however, said the outcome of Michael Otedola’s parenting was worth emulating, pointing to Femi Otedola’s achievements as evidence of the successful upbringing.
She wrote: “As I build my new empire in TV production, I try to dig into the archives to learn from my father’s friends who raised wealthy children.”
She added that she might never know whether her father believed that being wealthy could teach a child criminality, but described Otedola as a product of good parenting worthy of emulation.
Afolabi-Brown joined other Nigerians in celebrating the billionaire, praising him for defying several odds to build his business empire.
She wished him many more years of good health and happiness.
