A visit to a party in Lagos has ended in tragedy after a man identified simply as Tosin was allegedly robbed and killed by suspected cultists in the Egbin area of Ijede, Ikorodu.
Tosin had reportedly travelled from Ondo State to attend an event in the community on Tuesday, September 15.
But while the celebration was still ongoing, he reportedly stepped out of the venue — and never returned.
Sources said Tosin was allegedly accosted by hoodlums who robbed him of his gold chains, mobile phones and other personal belongings before killing him.
His sudden disappearance was subsequently reported to the police as a missing-person case.
Three days later, on September 18, the search took a grim turn when a corpse identified as Tosin was found floating in a river around Agura.
The body was later recovered and deposited in a morgue.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the development, saying the missing-person case had initially been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department before the corpse was discovered. She said the matter was now being investigated by the SCID.
Police sources said the discovery triggered a raid in the area on Friday, during which some suspects were arrested.
The suspects were taken into custody for questioning as detectives began investigating how Tosin died and those who may have been responsible.
The police are also working to establish whether the killing was connected to robbery, cult activity or other criminal motives.
Tosin’s death has meanwhile raised fresh concerns over security in the Ijede-Egbin axis, an area that has previously recorded cult-related violence and armed robbery incidents. Historical reports have documented clashes involving rival cult groups in Ijede, with security agencies carrying out raids and arrests in the area.
As investigation continues, police are expected to establish what happened to Tosin after he left the party venue and identify all those allegedly involved in his death.
