A pastor has landed in police net alongside an alleged accomplice over the theft of a Toyota Camry in Abuja, raising suspicions of an interstate car theft syndicate.

The suspects, identified as Edwin Nwabueze and Sadiq Jamiu, were arrested following investigations into the disappearance of the vehicle from UTC Plaza in the Garki area of the Federal Capital Territory.

Nwabueze, who reportedly identified himself as a pastor with Salvation Power Bible Ministry in North Bank, Benue State, was picked up at his residence on October 27.

The FCT Police Command said the suspect, who hails from Oji River, Enugu State, led investigators to another location where Jamiu, his alleged accomplice, was apprehended.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, preliminary investigations have also linked Nwabueze to previous arrests by the Benue State Police Command over alleged vehicle theft cases.

The police alleged that the two suspects were members of an interstate car theft syndicate involved in stealing vehicles and selling them across different states.

The command said investigations were ongoing to uncover the full operations of the alleged criminal network and track down other members still at large.

Both suspects remain in police custody and are expected to face prosecution after investigations are concluded.
