The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Saturday’s Kogi governorship poll, Senator Dino Melaye, refused to exercise his civic duty on that occasion.
Instead, Melaye is calling for the poll cancellation citing alleged compromise of the process with a predetermined outcome.
The PDP also took no part in the exercise across the 21 local government areas of the state with the party candidate not seen in his Unit 004, Ward 002, Iluafon quarters, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of the state to cast his vote.
Taking to his X handle @-Dinomelaye, he wrote, “INEC must cancel the election in the 5 local governments of Kogi Central.
“The election in Okene, Okehi, Ajaoukuta, Adavi, and Ogori/Mangogo is a scam coordinated from the highest level of INEC.”
A chieftain of the party who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Melaye deliberately stayed away from the exercise so as not to give the election credibility. We are quite aware where the pendulum will swing because the outcome is already predetermined.”
