A man, who claimed to be a police officer has been arrested in his bid to steal a Toyota Highlander SUV at Magboro, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The suspect, a mobile police officer, was apprehended on Friday by members of the Oodua People’s Congress.
Report said he sneaked into a Highlander with registration number Lagos KSF-146JZ, which was parked at a mechanic workshop in the area and attempted to drive it away.
“He picked the car key from its dashboard while the mechanic was away, started the engine, and in the process of reversing the vehicle he was intercepted after a mechanic apprehentice caught him in the act and raised the alarm, which drew OPC guys to the scene,” eyewitnesses relayed.
The latter added that the suspect said he is attached to the Joint Task Force under the Akpata Area Command, and even implicated some high-ranking police officers, including a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Abuja.
“He claimed to be into car stealing business with some top police officers, among them a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Abuja who he called on phone and announced his arrest to.
“He even pleaded to be handed over to the police, which was the case after he was mobbed,” sources narrated.
