A police officer, Inspector Okolie Amechi, has met his death at the hands of his 10-year-old son in Akwa, the Anambra State capital.
The melancholy event happened on Sunday as Inspector Amechi was shot dead by his minor son with the officer’s service AK-47 rifle.
Common report has that the incident occurred at the deceased’s residence, and proceeded from an accidental discharge.
“The boy was playing with his gun and mistakenly pulled the trigger and the shot hit his father fatally and his sibling simply identified as Emmanuel in the hand,” someone familiar with the incident narrated.
“The incident, which occurred on the evening of June 15, 2025, was allegedly due to an accidental discharge by his 10-year-old son.
“The son unaware of the state of the AK-47 rifle assigned to the Inspector, pulled the trigger and struck the Inspector on the back and his second child on the hand.
“Regrettably, Inspector Amechi was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at the hospital, while the second victim was said to be responding to treatment,” spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, also told newsmen.
