Two serving police officers from Lagos State erroneously belief by mob to practise kidnapping have escaped killing in Ogun State.

The officers on suspicion of being kidnappers were on Monday in Kanuyi Community, Simawa, Sagamu Local Government Area, subjected to apprehension and beating by angry residents.

The videos and the images of the moment caught on camera by enthusiasts were posted online where it went viral.

It gained the attention of the police authorities in the state who stepped in and cleared the officers of the suspicion.

According to the police, the falsely accused officers are attached to a Police Mobile Force Squadron in Lagos State.

Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said operatives were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving a distress report and rescued the officers from an agitated crowd before taking them into protective custody for verification.

Babaseyi stated that preliminary investigation confirmed that the men were serving police officers who had lost their way while returning from an official duty in Sagamu.

Their identities he added were verified through valid police identification cards, deployment documents and confirmation from their parent formation in Lagos State.
