The divisive report that attempt was made to attack President Bola Tinubu during his visit to Kaduna has triggered reaction from the state police command.

While the President was addressing the gathering on Thursday at the Murtala Square during the commissioning of several projects, a breach occurred as someone from the crowd beat some security officers and was approaching the stage where Tinubu was delivering his speech.

He was however stopped in his tracks by operatives.

The scene caught the President’s attention as he paused and said: “Leave him alone,” before continuing his speech.

The moment was caught on camera and posted on social media where it divided opinions, with some netizens claiming the guy aimed to attack Tinubu.

This mortifying supposition has drawn denial from the state police command who gave the identity of the guy as Umar Mohammed from Unguwan Mu’azu.

The information was passed by a statement the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan released in which it was made known that Mohammed was born with mental disability and was only expressing his love for the President.

“He acted out of anxiety and emotional excitement, expressing a long-held desire to meet the President and the Governor. He was immediately stopped and arrested by the inner security cordon. No incriminating item was found on him,” the statement read in part.

Some other remarks Hassan made are in the words: “The matter is under investigation, and anyone found to be spreading falsehoods will be invited for questioning and prosecuted if found culpable.”
