The controversy surrounding the claim by a woman, Fortune Obhafuoso, that a police officer with SCID, Panti, Lagos, Samuel Ukpabio, conspired with some persons to usurp her newborn, and in place, was handed N180,000 has taken a new twist.
Ukpabio and two women connected with the issue are facing the consequences of their actions in the form of arrest after Obhafuoso made it public, by crying foul alleging them of forceful take-over of her baby, and declaring the baby missing.
But the police said the account of the mother of three is half-truth in an interview the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, granted Punchng.
In it, Hundeyin opened the eyes of the public to the fact of the matter saying Obhafuoso’s intention was to sell the baby for N3m and picked offence when the money offered her fell way short of the sum.
“Investigations so far show that the woman conspired to sell her baby for N3m. Because she got only N185k after handing over her baby, she reached out to the press and alleged baby stealing.
“She has refused all entreaties to show up to positively identify her co-conspirators and testify in court. Without her testimony and identification, nothing can be proven beyond reasonable doubt in court. There might, therefore, be a miscarriage of justice,” the PPRO told the paper.
