A 42-year-old man accused of running a thriving fake identity document racket has landed in police custody after operatives of the Niger State Police Command busted his operation and recovered hundreds of forged documents.
The suspect, Mohammed Aliyu Buba of Angwan Sarki in Sarkin Pawa, Munya Local Government Area, was arrested by the Command’s Tactical Support Team for allegedly producing fake National Identification Number (NIN) slips and voter cards.
Police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said detectives recovered 105 fake NIN slips and 189 fake voter cards during the operation.
Investigators said the suspect confessed to churning out fake documents for more than 1,000 people. He allegedly collected ₦2,000 for each fake NIN slip and ₦1,000 for every voter card, raking in over ₦3 million from the illegal business.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives widen their investigation to track down those linked to the forgery ring and identify beneficiaries of the fake documents.
