An Ekiti Magistrates’ Court, Ikere-Ekiti Division has sentenced a student of a polytechnic in the state, Emmanuel Ekundayo, to one-year imprisonment for stealing mobile phones.

The latter were properties of some students of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti.

Ekundayo committed the offence on the university campus on July 17, 2023 where he was caught with the stolen phones in the school’s library while the first semester examination was underway.

He was said to have stolen the phones in the bags of students sitting for examinations.

Consequently, the 23-year-old was arraigned before Magistrate Dotun Omoteye on one count of stealing and found guilty.

His sentence also came with option of N50,000 fine.
