Controversial street-pop singer Portable has declared he is done with celebrity boxing after his explosive rematch with actor Charles Okocha ended in chaos and controversy.
The “Zazoo Zeh” crooner was disqualified on Friday night after dramatically walking out of the ring during the opening round of their much-hyped “Unfinished Business” clash at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island. Officials awarded the victory to Okocha.
But Portable insists he had every reason to quit.
Hours after the bout, the singer posted a video on Instagram showing scratches and marks on his body, alleging he was unfairly attacked during the contest. He also accused Okocha of biting and choking him inside the ring.
“He bit me. I landed a heavy hit on him. He choked my neck. That’s why I said I won’t fight again. I’m bigger than the money. I’m a star!” Portable fumed.
The rematch was staged to settle the lingering dispute over their first celebrity showdown, which Okocha had insisted was wrongly awarded to Portable.
What began as a boxing contest quickly turned into a wild grappling contest, with both men locked together as the referee struggled to separate them. Security personnel eventually stormed the ring to restore order.
Portable, however, maintained that he had already done enough damage before the drama unfolded.
“I promised to give him 10 blows, and I did. One man is tougher than another. I dealt him a huge blow. I wore a one-round outfit because I wanted to finish him in one round,” he boasted.
Although he later returned to the ring, officials had already ruled him out, handing Okocha the victory by disqualification.
Still refusing to accept the outcome, Portable insisted he would not have resorted to clinching if Okocha had not allegedly bitten him.
The dramatic clash ended with both camps trading accusations online, leaving fans divided over one of Nigeria’s most chaotic celebrity boxing showdowns—and with Portable now saying he has fought his last celebrity bout.
