Fresh controversy has surrounded the death of Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba after her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, claimed she died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Onadeko’s claim has opened a new chapter in the circumstances surrounding the actress’ death, which had been widely linked to complications from her previous battle with breast cancer.
The prophet, however, insisted that cancer was not responsible for Osoba’s death.
He made the claims on Saturday during an interview with Celestial Reality Check, the Media Investigative Unit of the Celestial Church of Christ.
According to Onadeko, he received a midnight phone call from an unidentified person informing him that Osoba had died at a police station in Ikorodu.
He said he did not know the particular station where she allegedly died but went to a nearby police station to report himself.
Onadeko said Osoba had gone to see one Mrs Kehinde Osoba, who he said also runs a church, shortly before her death.
He explained that Osoba had wanted to see him but he was unavailable because of church programmes.
He said a hairdresser at whose residence Osoba had been staying accompanied her on the trip.
According to him, they remained in communication and Osoba even made a social media post shortly before he later received the shocking news of her death.
The revelation comes amid several allegations and social media claims about Osoba’s final days, including claims that she was poisoned, maltreated and subjected to degrading treatment.
Onadeko dismissed the allegations.
The prophet, who is Shepherd-in-charge of CCC Onibuore Cathedral, Bogije, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, also denied claims that Osoba’s death was caused by her previous battle with breast cancer.
He acknowledged that the actress had battled the disease and undergone surgery but insisted that she had recovered.
According to him, he first met Osoba about two years ago and prayed for her before she underwent cancer surgery.
He recalled that on the day she was scheduled for the operation, she filmed a skit with Boda Wasiu before they proceeded to Evacare Hospital.
Onadeko also rejected allegations that he had access to money donated to Osoba for her cancer treatment or diverted the funds to build his church.
He said donations made to the actress, including a cheque reportedly offered by businessman Mike Adenuga, were paid into Osoba’s account and that he never had access to the money.
He also dismissed claims that he used the actress’ surgery money to construct the church, explaining that the church had existed for about 20 years and was already completed, roofed and painted before Osoba joined the congregation.
The prophet further denied claims that Osoba was prevented from driving her car.
He said she drove herself to Iperu, Ogun State, shortly before her death, although he claimed not to know who she went to see there.
Onadeko also revealed that Osoba had struggled with smoking and said he had encouraged her to quit.
He claimed members of the church were aware of her smoking habit.
The prophet equally denied allegations that Osoba was maltreated before her death, including claims that urine or faeces were poured on her as punishment over an alleged theft of biscuits.
He said they had lived together without being subjected to financial hardship or coercion.
Onadeko explained that the house where Osoba lived belonged to her uncle and that they never rented an apartment together.
He said Osoba later gave her uncle N1 million after her surgery because the man had insisted that she should at least compensate him for staying in his house.
He also dismissed claims that Osoba drank poison before her death.
According to him, the actress had left the church about three weeks before she died.
He said he contacted one of her uncles, identified as Taiwo, after learning of her death, but the man allegedly became angry and refused to speak with him.
Osoba, who was 40, had previously spoken publicly about her battle with breast cancer, treatment and surgery.
In 2024, she announced her return to public life after the experience, describing the period as one that brought healing, growth and empowerment.
Her death has since triggered questions and speculation over what happened in her final days.
However, the circumstances surrounding her reported death at a police station, as claimed by her fiancé, remain unclear.
Osoba is scheduled to be buried on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
