The Yoruba movie industry has been thrown into mourning following popular actress and producer, Tope Osoba’s death at the age of 40.
Tope Osoba’s death came barely a year after she made a triumphant return to the screen following her battle with breast cancer.
The actress had won widespread admiration after openly sharing her cancer journey, from discovering a lump during a self-examination to undergoing surgery and further treatment.
She had also appealed for financial support to help fund her treatment before follow-up tests showed that the cancer had not spread.
After being declared cancer-free, Osoba returned to acting in 2025, describing the comeback as a major turning point in her life.
At the time, she said her experience had made her stronger and more determined to use her story to inspire others.
“I’m emerging stronger, more resilient, and more passionate about sharing my story and inspiring others,” she had said.
The actress, who featured in several Yoruba movies, including Ile Owo, Omo Iya Kan and Gucci Girls, had also vowed to use her platform to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage others battling the disease.
Her death has since triggered an outpouring of grief among colleagues, fans and other members of the Nigerian film industry, many of whom admired her courage during her health battle.
However, the cause and circumstances surrounding her death had not been officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
