The plan to set up Real Madrid Academy in Rivers State is hotting up as Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Monday toured training facilities of the La Liga giant.

Wike, who was in Madrid to discuss further modalities met with officials and players of the club including Cristano Ronaldo, and Sergio Ramos.

Accompanied on the inspection tour by the state commissioner of sports, Boma Iyaye and former Nigerian international, Adokiye Amiesimaka, the tour guide was Vice President of Interact Sports, Kazma.

“We are using football as one of the key empowerment programmes for the next generation. We want to grow international football stars from a tender age.

“We will tap from the experience and exposure of Real Madrid and their stars. This is a project that will change the face of football in Rivers State and Nigeria,” Wike said at a meeting that had in attendance Ronaldo and Ramos.
