Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, widely known as RMD, has shared that he gave his wife, Jumobi, the first ₦100 million cheque he ever received as a deeply personal romantic gesture.
The 65-year-old made the disclosure during an interview with Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show, which began trending on Wednesday. He described himself as an “incurable romantic” who enjoys lavishing his wife with generous gifts.
RMD said one of the greatest compliments he receives is when his wife acknowledges that many of her most treasured possessions were bought by him.
“I’m an incurable romantic. These days, it’s no longer about flowers and chocolates because women appreciate money,” he said.
Explaining how he got his first ₦100 million cheque, RMD said he immediately instructed his manager to pass it on to his wife.
“The first major cheque I ever received was ₦100 million. When it was handed to me, I told my manager to give it to my wife. When she received it, she asked if I wanted her to keep it for the children. I told her no, that she should keep it for herself and spend it however she liked,” he said.
However, the actor admitted he was aware that much of the money would ultimately go toward their children.
“The truth is, I know about 90 per cent of it will eventually be spent on the children. I just like giving my wife the best of what I have so she never has to ask for anything. Everything big and beautiful in the house belongs to her,” he added.
RMD married former television presenter Jumobi in 2000, four years after the passing of his first wife, May Ellen Ezekiel. The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in December 2025.
The Delta State-born actor is a father of four—two children from his first marriage and two from his current union.
