Eight persons accused of stoning Senate President Bukola Saraki at Eid prayer ground have been granted bail a week after their arrest.
But the suspects; Aliyu Immam, 24; Sheu Ibrahim, 23; AbdulKadri Sharafadeen, 25; Yusuf Olayinka, 26; Mohammed Abiola, 27; Ayo Giwa, 65; Zakariyau Abubakar, 50 and 35-year-old Kareem Ajape’s freedom will not come at no cost.
The Magistrate, Mercy Adebola, granted each of them bail for N100,000 with two sureties each and adjourned the case till October 12 for further mention after they pleaded not guilty to the charge of disturbing religious assembly contrary to Section 212 of the Penal Code Law preferred against them.
The prosecutor, Inspector Nasiru Yusuf had told the court that the accused stoned Saraki and other dignitaries at the eid prayer ground and urged the court to remand the suspects in prison pending the completion of investigation- a request the magistrate declined.
It will be recalled that angry protesters last Thursday at Ilorin Eid Prayer Ground stoned Sen. Saraki and pelted him with sachet water over allegation that he stole N17 trillion belonging to Kwara State government.
