The principal of Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area in Kogi State has been abducted alongside four students writing the ongoing National Examinations Council examination, NECO, in the school.
Also kidnapped is a NECO ad hoc staff member as the identities of all the victims were yet to be in public domain as of the time of writing this report.
It was however said that the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at around 5:25 p.m., while students were writing the examination.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the occurrence on Wednesday through a statement its spokesperson, ASP Salisu Oyiza issued.
“During the incident, four students, the school principal and one NECO ad hoc staff member were abducted by the attackers.
“A combined team of the police and other security agencies immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation and is currently on the trail of the assailants. So far, one of the abducted students has been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators,” the statement read partly.
