A sitting senator from Osun State, Senator Francis Ade Fadahunsi, has come under fire after allegedly calling on supporters to attack and kill members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, made the inflammatory remarks in Yoruba while addressing supporters in Ilesa, Osun State.
The video of the senator’s speech was shared by music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, on social media.
Providing an English translation of portions of the remarks, which contained the call for violence against Accord supporters, the singer wrote: “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too.”
The threat did not stop there.
Fadahunsi also told supporters that the election was a Federal Government election and warned that Accord supporters would not be allowed to vote, even if they came to polling units with valid voter cards, saying: “This is a Federal Government election. On election day, even if they come with voter cards, we won’t allow them to vote.”
In another portion of the video, the senator warned supporters to report any activity involving the Accord Party in Ilesa and specifically referred to the yellow caps associated with the party.
“What kind of life is that? If we hear anything about Accord in Ilesa here, record me and go and tell them,” he remarked, and went on to say: “So, we have come to tell you now, from now till the election day, if we see them, kill them o.”
The remarks have triggered fresh concerns over the escalating political tension in Osun State as the governorship election draws closer.
The election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking another term on the Accord Party platform.
The comments are particularly explosive coming in the final days of the campaign, when political parties and their supporters are expected to be mobilising voters across the state.
Osun has witnessed a highly charged campaign, with rival political camps trading accusations of intimidation, harassment and inflammatory rhetoric.
The latest controversy could further heighten fears of violence on election day, particularly in areas where supporters of rival parties are expected to clash.
