Maina is detained and under investigation at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja over alleged N2.1 billion fraud.
The Nation reports that on Monday a plot was carried out by seven EFCC operatives and one Zainab to smuggle him out of detention in commando style but was foiled.
“That night, one Zainab Abbas was smuggled into the visitors’ area to meet with Maina. She was with her telephone.
“She was alleged to be making efforts to procure some purported military personnel to execute the plan to get Maina out in a commando style,” the unnamed source told the paper.
The publication further quoted the source as saying: “Operatives on duty that night were arrested, questioned and detained. They are being investigated for suspected complicity.”
