A 36-year-old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over an alleged child sexual abuse and pornography case in Onitsha.
Her arrest followed the emergence of a disturbing video allegedly showing a woman sexually abusing a minor with sex toys.
The police said operatives moved in on September 10, 2026, after receiving information from open-source intelligence about the video and subsequently arrested Onyeanusia in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State.
During the operation, four children aged two, three, six and nine were reportedly rescued from the location.
Police operatives also recovered sex toys and other materials considered relevant to the investigation.
The command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect remained in custody while investigators were working to establish what happened and determine whether other people were involved.
He added that the suspect’s husband had also been taken in for questioning to establish whether he had any connection with the alleged offence.
The development has drawn strong condemnation from the state police authorities, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji, describing the alleged exploitation of children as unacceptable.
Oji directed investigators to conduct a thorough and professional probe while ensuring that the rescued children were protected and properly cared for.
The police said the children would be handed over to appropriate child-protection and support agencies for counselling and other necessary assistance.
The command also assured that the identities and privacy of the children would be protected throughout the investigation.
Meanwhile, the police commended vigilante operatives, residents and bloggers whose information reportedly helped authorities trace the suspect and rescue the children.
The investigation is ongoing, with police seeking to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse and establish whether other individuals played any role.
