After six agonising months of fear, tears and uncertainty, a community in Kwara State has finally received a major breakthrough as 176 women and children kidnapped from Woro community have regained their freedom.
The victims, who were abducted by suspected terrorists in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, were reportedly released on Wednesday, bringing huge relief to their families and residents who had spent months praying for their safe return.
The women and children were said to have been held captive by suspected Boko Haram-linked terrorists after they were taken from the community in a frightening attack that plunged Woro into mourning and panic.
For half a year, families of the victims lived in agony, unsure of the fate of their loved ones as efforts intensified behind the scenes to secure their release.
News of their freedom sparked celebrations and renewed hope among residents, who described the development as a major relief after months of anxiety.
Confirming the rescue, the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Communications, Ibraheem Abdullateef, said the victims were freed through the efforts of security agencies working to restore peace and safety to affected communities.
In a statement, Abdullateef said the Kwara State Government appreciated the dedication of the security forces and all individuals and organisations who played roles in ensuring the successful rescue operation.
The release of the victims marks a significant victory in the fight against terrorism and criminal activities threatening communities in parts of the country.
