An Ibadan woman, Wasilat, popularly known on TikTok as Adeola Ti O Care, has broken her silence over the controversy surrounding a viral Oloolu masquerade video, insisting that she was not ill as widely reported but was allegedly forced to make false claims.
Wasilat, in a video in which she speaks in Yoruba dismissed social media reports that she had died after allegedly seeing the Oloolu masquerade procession in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The TikTok user revealed that she is alive and alleged that she was subjected to a frightening ordeal involving arrest, forced traditional rituals, hair shaving, and a ₦400,000 payment demand after posting a video about the Oloolu festival.
According to the account of Adeola Ti O Care, trouble started after she recorded a scene from inside her room showing operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, and other people in the area.
She said she uploaded the video on TikTok with the caption “Oloolu is Around” simply to alert people to avoid passing through the area, adding that she had no intention of disrespecting the masquerade or causing trouble.
Wasilat alleged that shortly after the post went viral, some individuals confronted her and demanded that she delete it.
She said she removed the video immediately but could not stop people from circulating screenshots of the post.
She claimed that days later, two men arrived at her home, accusing her of being behind the TikTok account.
According to her, they allegedly abused her and her family before involving police officers who took her into custody.
The woman alleged that she was told she had to follow them because an order had reportedly come from the Olubadan, and she was threatened with imprisonment if she refused.
After spending a night in police custody, Wasilat said she was released on bail the following day.
However, she claimed her troubles did not end there.
She alleged that instead of being allowed to return home, she was taken to another location where she was forced to undergo traditional rites against her will.
Wasilat claimed her mother was instructed to provide a goat and a razor, which were allegedly used during the process.
She alleged that she was taken to a shrine, stripped of her clothes, had her hair shaved, and was subjected to a ritual ceremony.
The woman further claimed that the goat was slaughtered and its blood was poured over her body.
She also alleged that she was later made to appear in a live video where she was pressured to claim that she became seriously sick after seeing the Oloolu masquerade and needed the ritual as a form of healing.
Wasilat insisted that the sickness story was false, alleging that she was forced to make the claims despite being healthy.
She further alleged that she was pressured to claim she suffered unusual bleeding, saying those claims were fabricated and did not reflect what actually happened.
According to her, the matter was eventually settled after those involved allegedly demanded ₦400,000 from her husband.
She claimed the money was transferred to members of the Isese community and not the police.
The woman’s account has reignited discussions online, coming after rumours that she had died following an alleged encounter with the Oloolu masquerade.
Wasilat maintained that she is alive and described herself as a victim of an alleged ordeal, while those mentioned in her allegations have yet to publicly respond.
