A Nigerian cyclist, Ese Ekpeseraye, had to borrow bicycle from Team Germany to compete in the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics.
Ekpeseraye was left stranded by the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN), who failed to provide her bicycle for the race.
She however turned to Team Germany and later took to social media to talk about what went down.
“Due to the short notice of me competing at the Keirin & Sprint, #teamNigeria I had no bicycle to race with on the tracks. In the spirit of sportsmanship, the German team @bunddeutscherradfahr came to my rescue by offering me a bicycle. Thank you,” she wrote.
Ekpeseraye’s case is akin to Nigeria’s national 100 metres champion, Favour Ofili, who was unable to compete in the Paris Olympics because the national athletics federation failed to register her in time.
