The Federal Government has announced its suspension of the plan to sell subsidized rice to civil servants.
The government is in the process of selling 50 kg bags of rice at the subsidised rate of N40,000 to the public, and initially invited interested civil servants to apply for it by completing a Google form on the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) website.
The invitation was by an earlier circular dated August 1, 2024.
As it stands now, government has told those in its employ desirous of the rice to suspend their desire.
The Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs announced this in a circular dated August 2, 2024, signed by the Director of Human Resources, Aderonke Jaiyesimi.
However, the latest circular gave no reason for the withdrawal of the initial directive nor did it clarify whether the scheme was permanently cancelled or temporarily suspended.
