A young man, Gafaru Buraimoh, has died in Ajah area of Lagos State from a stray bullet fired by a police inspector.
Gafaru had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time on Tuesday night at around 11.30pm.
He was said to be at PoS outlet ostensibly for a transaction when an inspector in a patrol team of policemen chasing fuel black market operators fired gunshot(s), and in the process, killing the deceased who was a resident of Happy Land Estate.
Gafaru’s killing sparked protest on Wednesday as angry youths stormed Elemoro Area Command at 8am. The protesting youths also caused gridlock at the expressway blocking the road.
Speaking on the incident via a statement he released, the police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said, “At About 2330hrs of Tuesday, December 06 2022, a shooting incident involving men of Ajah Division, resulted in the unfortunate death of Gafaru Buraimoh of Happy Land Estate, Ajah.
“The officer behind the shooting, an Inspector of Police, was immediately disarmed and has been detained, as full-scale investigation has commenced.
“The Lagos State Police Command through the Area Commander, Elemoro and Divisional Police Officer, Ajah has since notified and established contact with the family.
“The Command, while commiserating with the family of the deceased over the avoidable and most unfortunate incident, gives assurances that the already commenced investigation into the immediate and remote circumstances leading to the shooting will be brought to a speedy and conclusive end, while equally ensuring that justice is served.”olicemen along Ajah Road.
