The Senate has called on the Federal Government to put in abeyance the planned deployment of the Fifth Generation Network in Nigeria.

According to reports, the call was made on Tuesday on the floor following a motion moved by Senator Uche Ekwunife representing Anambra Central.

Ekwunife argued that given some sort of public distrust trailing the network, the government should suspend the launch till a large scale investigation is carried out on it.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Senators Ajayi Boroffice and Opeyemi Bamidele in a same vein, said the 5G network is bedevilled by controversy.

Upon unanimity on the issue, the Senate directed its committees on Communication, Science, Technology and ICT, and that of Health to conduct a thorough investigation with a view to determining the status of the 5G network in the country, Punchng.com wrote.

The paper added that the red chamber said in the interim, relevant federal agency supervising the ICT operations in the country should suspend the 5G deployment until a thorough probe to determine its suitability for human health had been achieved.
