Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday pushed back at insinuations that he betrayed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approaching a United States court to compel Chicago State University to release his academic records.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Affairs, Temitope Ajayi, had imputed betrayal of his principal at Atiku in series of tweets on X saying, “For me, the issue is not whether President Tinubu graduated from Chicago State University or not.
“It is the fact that former Vice President Atik u is not a decent man.
“Nobody should subject his or her friend to the level of assault and indignity he has subjected President Tinubu to because of earthly position and contestation for power.
“We are talking of a Tinubu that had moved mountains for Atiku in the past.
“A Tinubu that offered Atiku a shelter when he was thoroughly beaten by rain and stripped naked by President Obasanjo and his party PDP in 2007.
“No friend should become what Ekiti people call ‘aleni mo deyin’, a relentless pursuer like former VP Atiku regardless of the prize!”
On Thursday, Atiku denied the charge while speaking on his discovery in the US.
Instead, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate said Tinubu owed his reelection as Lagos governor to him.
His word, “Those of you who are old enough will also remember that in 2003, the PDP took over all the South-Western states, with the exception of Lagos.
“I stood between Obasanjo and himself (Tinubu) and I said no, you (Obasanjo) can’t take over Lagos. Leave it and he (Obasanjo) left it. So, who is indebted to whom? Is it me or Bola Ahmed Tinubu? I vehemently deny that I stabbed Tinubu in the back.
“There are other things which I will not want to go into.”
