Wife of Andrew Wynne, a British national accused of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration, said the allegation against her husband is due to money.

Wynne, a bookshop owner at the Nigeria Labour Congress complex in Abuja was declared wanted on Monday by the Nigeria Police Force alongside, a Nigerian, Lucky Obiyan, with N10m bounty placed on each.

The man denied the charge in an interview he granted Channels Television on Monday from the UK via zoom.

Speaking to the same Channels Television, the Briton’s wife whose name was concealed for security reason, traced the coup allegation against her husband allegedly to money issue between him and one Olumide Inokunye.

She said Inokunye has been owing Wynne and instead of paying up resorted to frame her husband up.

According to her, “We have been together for nine years now. Eight years of friendship and we got married last year. My husband has been falsely accused. He has never been a terrorist.

“He is being accused because one Mr. Olumide Inokunye (sic) owes him and is not willing to pay him. The case is still in court even now. So, he is just doing everything he can to intimidate and throw him out of the country.

“My husband is in the UK now. He came in at the expiry date of his (visa) and had to go back.”
