The viral drama involving UBA Chairman, Tony Elumelu, and a young female staff member has taken a fresh turn after the billionaire banker reportedly met with the lady at the centre of the controversy.

The meeting comes days after a video showing the young woman addressing Elumelu simply as “Tony” during a UBA event triggered a storm of reactions on social media.

The incident occurred during an interactive session at the bank’s Graduate Management Accelerated Programme (GMAP) graduation ceremony.

The lady had stood up to speak and greeted the UBA boss with the words, “Good morning, Tony.”

Elumelu initially appeared to think she had said “Toyin” before realising that she was actually addressing him as Tony.

He then stopped her and made it clear that she should address him as Mr Elumelu or TOE, rather than Tony.

The billionaire businessman also said he did not subscribe to what he described as that kind of “Oyinbo life.”

What appeared to be a brief exchange, however, quickly exploded online.

The video went viral, with Nigerians divided over whether the young woman had crossed the line by calling the chairman by his first name or whether she was simply following the first-name culture common in some modern workplaces.

While some critics accused her of being disrespectful, others came to her defence, arguing that corporate environments often encourage employees to address senior executives by their first names.

The controversy grew so much that reactions came from former UBA employees and other public figures, turning a few seconds of interaction at a corporate event into one of the most talked-about workplace etiquette debates on Nigerian social media.

But just when the matter appeared to be settling down, a new development has emerged.

Elumelu has now met the young woman.

A photograph showing the two together has surfaced as the original video continues to make the rounds online, adding another twist to the controversy.

The latest meeting has sparked another wave of reactions, with social media users now focusing on the picture and wondering what transpired after their earlier exchange.
