FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that he is not interested in making opposition politicians comfortable ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the provocative remark on Friday while speaking with journalists during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja.
The former Rivers State governor, who spoke about the growing political battle ahead of 2027, said the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party had weakened the opposition and made it difficult to identify a dominant challenger to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
According to him, his priority is not to sympathise with opposition leaders but to make sure they remain under pressure.
“I don’t want them to feel well. It’s not my wish that they should feel well,” Wike said.
He added that keeping his political opponents uncomfortable was part of his strategy, likening the contest to a battle where neither side should expect favours.
“My business is to make them not to feel well all the days. Because they will be having high blood pressure. Yes, that’s my job,” he said.
Wike said the objective in any political contest was to defeat opponents decisively rather than worry about how they felt.
“Your business is to make sure you beat him thoroughly. So that he will be sick all through. And that’s what we are doing to them,” he declared.
The minister, a PDP member who has been at loggerheads with several leaders of the party since its internal crisis began, also dismissed concerns about the reactions of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.
Wike said he was unconcerned about how either politician viewed the unfolding political developments.
“How Atiku feels, how Obi feels, it does not give any headache. If I know how they feel now, I will add more crisis for them,” he added.
His comments come amid intensified political manoeuvring by parties and politicians ahead of the 2027 elections.
