Barely two years after the death of former Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, tragedy has struck his family again with the sudden death of his elder sister, Fidelia Ezinwanne Chigbogu, at the age of 61.

Fidelia reportedly died on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at her Lagos residence while preparing to attend church, where she had planned to testify about how her family survived a recent electrical fire incident.

Her death has added to the grief of the Ubah family, which lost the former Anambra South senator in July 2024.

According to reports, Fidelia had been looking forward to sharing her testimony after an electricity meter reportedly exploded at the family home days earlier, setting their changeover room ablaze.

Although the incident caused a fire, the family members reportedly escaped unharmed, an experience that left her grateful and eager to publicly thank God.

She reportedly told her husband, Chudi Chidinma Chigbogu, that she intended to mount the church altar on Sunday to share the testimony.

But the plan was never fulfilled.

Her husband was reportedly downstairs preparing their car for the journey to church when he became concerned that she had not come down by about 8 a.m.

He went upstairs to check on her and reportedly found her lying motionless on the bed, fully dressed and unresponsive.

According to accounts of the incident, she had shown no obvious signs of illness before the tragedy.

Her husband was said to have sought medical assistance, but efforts to get help reportedly failed to save her.

The circumstances surrounding her sudden death have left her family and loved ones devastated.

‘SHE WAS THE FAMILY’S PEACEMAKER’

Fidelia was described in reports as a natural leader who played a central role in maintaining peace within the family.

Her husband, who affectionately called her “Darling,” reportedly said she was the person family members turned to whenever disagreements arose.

She was also said to have played an active role in her church, participated in charitable activities and founded a women’s group.

Before her death, she was reportedly working towards establishing an orphanage, a project her husband has pledged to continue in her memory.

Fidelia was also said to have been one of the trustees of the Ubah family.

Her death has therefore not only deprived the family of a loved one but also of someone described as a source of unity and support.

TWO YEARS AFTER IFEANYI UBAH’S DEATH

Fidelia’s death comes about two years and three months after her younger brother, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, died in London on July 27, 2024, aged 52.

Ubah was a businessman and politician who represented Anambra South Senatorial District in the Senate. He was also the founder and chief executive of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited.

His death was confirmed by the Senate and prompted tributes from political leaders, colleagues and members of the business community.

The former senator had also survived an assassination attempt in September 2022, when gunmen attacked his convoy in Anambra State. Several people, including police officers, were killed in the attack, but Ubah survived because he was travelling in an armoured vehicle.

Now, the death of his sister has brought fresh sorrow to the family.

In a particularly painful twist, Fidelia had reportedly been preparing to celebrate what she considered a divine intervention in the family’s escape from the recent fire.

Instead of standing before her church congregation to share the testimony, she died before the planned service.
