A routine fitness exercise has ended in tragedy in Sokoto State after a police inspector suddenly collapsed and died shortly after participating in the Command’s weekly Walkathon.
The deceased officer, Inspector Adamu Isah, was attached to the Department of Operations of the Sokoto State Police Command.
Isah reportedly took part in the Command’s Wednesday Walkathon at its headquarters on Wednesday, September 2, as part of the force’s regular physical fitness and operational-readiness programme.
However, shortly after completing the exercise, the inspector reportedly collapsed.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention, but doctors later confirmed his death.
The development threw officers and personnel of the Command into mourning, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, expressing shock over the sudden loss.
Shaffa described Isah as a dedicated and gallant officer who served the nation with commitment and professionalism.
The police boss also revealed that the deceased was not only committed to his official duties but was actively involved in sports.
According to him, Isah was a member of the Command’s volleyball team and also participated in boxing.
The Commissioner said the officer’s energy, discipline and team spirit would be sorely missed by his colleagues.
Shaffa condoled with the deceased officer’s family, friends and colleagues, assuring the bereaved family that the Command would stand by them and provide necessary support.
He also urged officers and men to remain steadfast while taking solace in the fact that their colleague died in the course of a life dedicated to serving the nation.
The Commissioner prayed for the peaceful repose of Inspector Isah’s soul and for God to give his family the strength to bear the loss.
