A devastating tragedy has struck the family of Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, Yobe State, following the deaths of her twin daughters just two days apart.

The deceased, identified as Dr Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi and Pharm Aidah Usman Abdullahi, were both healthcare professionals.

Hadiyah, a medical doctor, reportedly died on Friday, October 2, 2026, after suffering complications associated with sickle cell disease.

Her twin sister, Aidah, a pharmacist, died two days later on Sunday, October 4, deepening the grief that had barely begun to settle over the family.

Reports said Hadiyah had been receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, before her death.

Aidah was also reportedly undergoing treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and was said to have been discharged before attending her twin sister’s burial.

She reportedly later visited Hadiyah’s grave, collapsed and was rushed to hospital, where she subsequently died.

The circumstances surrounding Aidah’s death were contained in reports following condolence messages over the tragedy, while the family’s initial announcement did not publicly state a cause of death.

The Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, also joined mourners in expressing grief over the loss of the two sisters.

The deaths have sparked an outpouring of condolences for Prof Hadiza Usman and her family, with mourners praying for the repose of the two young women and strength for their bereaved mother.

The two sisters had both followed their mother into the medical profession, making the double loss particularly painful for the family and colleagues who knew them.
