A 38-year-old Islamic teacher, Sagir Sani, has been remanded by a Yola magistrate’s court in Adamawa State over allegations that he sexually assaulted two girls, aged eight and nine.
Sani, who teaches Quranic recitation in Numan Local Government Area, was accused of taking the minors to a secluded spot behind the school classrooms, where he allegedly defiled them.
The case came to light after the mother of one of the alleged victims reported the matter at the Numan Divisional Police Headquarters on August 7, 2026.
Police prosecutor, ASP Zakka Musa, told Chief Magistrate’s Court I, Yola, that the defendant allegedly lured the girls away from the classroom before committing the offences.
Sani was arraigned on charges including indecent treatment, sexual assault and defilement.
He pleaded not guilty when the allegations were read and explained to him.
Following his plea, the police asked the court for more time to forward the case file to the state Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The court granted the request and ordered that Sani be remanded pending further proceedings.
The allegations are yet to be proved in court.
