The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak has in a congratulatory remark to President-elect, Bola Tinubu, said he anticipated partnership between them in security and trade matters.

Sunak stated this in his tweet on Wednesday evening, “Congratulations to @officialABAT on his victory in Nigeria.

“The UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong. I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries.”

Tinubu was declared the winner of Saturday’s presidential election on Wednesday morning. He polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who came second after polling 6,984,520 votes.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party polled 6,101,533 votes to come third, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s Rabiu Kwankwaso came fourth after polling 1,496,687 votes.

The former Lagos governor and vice president-elect, Kashim Shettima were presented with certificates of return on Wednesday.
