Mayor of San Pedro Huamelula Victor Aguilar took a crocodile to be his wife on Friday.
This according to multiple reports was an indigenous tradition intended to bring good fortune to local fishermen.

Reports said tradition demands the respective Mayor of San Pedro Huamelul marry a new crocodile each year, adding that legend has it that the ceremony will bring fishermen luck in fishing.
The female crocodile was reportedly baptised on Thursday, and dressed in a white robe with her jaws clamped shut on the big day.
‘With this ritual we ask for a good harvest, for the sea and the lagoons to give us all the food we need and we ask that everything goes well with everyone here,’ Mayor of San Pedro Huamelula was quoted as saying.
