The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has told President Muhammadu Buhari that if not for the constitution and the president himself he (Buhari) would have been asked to continue in office.

Constitutionally, the President like the governors is entitled to a maximum two terms of four years each.

Tinubu at his campaign rally at Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Saturday that had Buhari in attendance, several chieftains of the APC and supporters told the President, “Nigeria is surviving as a nation. Because of constitutional democracy, we would have asked you to continue, but you said no, you are going back to Daura, your hometown.”

The former Lagos governor also dispelled rumour of a rift between them: ‘‘Those who think there are cracks in our friendship and relationship would continue to be disappointed and have their short times’ joy limited.

“Ours is not about the individual but about nation building, honesty, integrity and character.”
