A bandit kingpin, Kachalla Muhammad in whose gang’s custody abducted retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, and his wife, Hajiya Amina Abubakar are, has announced the reneging of his promise to set free Hajiya Abubakar.
Muhammad had earlier in a viral audio of him promised to free the woman from his gang’s captivity.
The latest twist was conveyed to the public by the bandit leader via another audio where he announced that he won’t honour his promise again.
In it, he cited the presence of security personnel as motivation for changing his mind saying he won’t want government to take credit for her release.
“I had promised the General that I would release his wife, but the deployment of security personnel in the area made me change my mind,” Kachalla said in Hausa language.
The couple were abducted while travelling to Katsina on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Their vehicle was ambushed along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area.
