Former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has traced the genesis of the fight between him and Governor Dapo Abiodun to his attempts to advise the governor.
Recall that there is no love lost between both with rumour rife that their disagreement stemmed from clash of ambition allegedly arising from Governor Abiodun’s plan to contest for Ogun East Senate in 2027 — a position Daniel is seeking to retain on the same ruling All Progressives Congress.
The latter shared an unheard-before context to their fight while giving the Midterm Assessment Tour of his senatorial representation in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government.
He said their rift emanated from his advice to the governor.
“I have tried several times to advise this governor privately. The reward for my counsel was public ostracisation.
“But when the very work we are doing for our people is being sabotaged, silence is no longer an option,” he alleged
He accused Governor Abiodun of sabotaging the rehabilitation of Itanrin Road and the General Hospital Road in Ijebu-Igbo, which were facilitated by his office under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“A ‘stop-work order’ has been issued by the local government chairman under pressure. Why choose to fight the people? Why sabotage federal interventions? If by December 2025 this order is not lifted, the funding will be lost,” he said.
