The failure of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to mete out punishment to Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ex-gov Samuel Ortom and other members of the erstwhile G-5 involved in anti-party activities during the 2023 Presidential election has excited explanation from the hierarchy.

Ahead of Thursday’s 98th National Executive Committee meeting of the PDP held in Abuja report was rife that decisions would be made against Wike and his like, with former governorship candidate of the party in Kogi State, Senator Dino Melaye, boasting that every top chieftain involved in anti-party activities would get serious sanctions that day.

It however turned out that nothing of such occurred, an outcome, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the party, Taofeek Arapaja justified.

Arapaja in an interview with Punchng said it was outside the purview of the party’s NEC to discipline members.

“I think that is not part of the activities of the NEC. We have different committees like the reconciliation committee and the disciplinary committee. So we have internal mechanisms to deal with things like that. And then, they have never been accused; they have never been charged and they haven’t presented themselves for the disciplinary committee or anything. So, I don’t think that is for NEC to do.

“Whoever is alleging them of
committing anti-party should forward their complaints to the disciplinary committee. That is just it. There are lots of mechanisms and processes that need to take place and things like that are not the duty of the NEC,” he told the publication.
