The attack on Amuludun FM station in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital by Yoruba separatists’ group otherwise known as Yoruba Nation agitators has been attributed to their displeasure at purported failure of the medium operators to give them chance to express their views on air.
Report said the separatists’ group had petitioned the station operators on several occasions requesting for the coverage of their activities and allowance to appear on programmes to no avail.
The discomfort that followed the situation from the side of the separatists boiled over culminating in five of the group storming the station to force through their request on Sunday morning.
The contrivance was resisted from sailing through as the police acting on the alarm raised by the station operators, rushed to the scene where the intruders, namely
Noah Atoyebi ‘M’ 30yrs, Gbenga Adeleke ‘M’ 25yrs, Abdulganiyu Mustafa Kolawole ‘M’ 35yrs, Bashiru Kehinde O. ‘F’ and Fajola Elija ‘M’ 45yrs were arrested.
Meanwhile, Prof. Banji Akintoye, leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba Nation Self Determination Struggle has condemned the act of the suspects, describing it as ‘criminal and a breach of public peace’.
