A newlywed wife has been accused of poisoning her husband’s food and ended up killing him.
The incident happened at Gauza village in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State on January 23, 2026.
The suspect who is in police custody was said to have poisoned the food she prepared for the victim with rat poison.
At about 5pm on that fateful day, on consuming the meal laced with the poison, the man developed health issue and passed away, report said.
It said further that the suspect whose identity and that of her victim are not in official report on the incident confessed to the crime, saying she took the action in protest for being forced into the marriage by her parents.
It was also gathered that in her confession she made it known that she sent her innocent cousin to buy her the rat poison which she used to end her husband’s life.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, while relating the matter to newsmen said upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.
