The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, said it has launched investigation into an incident in which a lady destroyed a Nigerian passport at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The video of the incident went viral attracting wide reactions.

In it, an agitated female traveler, identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, is seen tearing her husband’s Nigerian Standard Passport shortly after they arrived at the Lagos Airport on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

She is also heard in the footage replying to someone questioning her over it: “Is it your passport?”

NIS in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo said it is probing the issue.

It also said the actions could be a violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), which prohibits the willful destruction of Nigerian travel documents.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service has launched a formal investigation following the circulation of a video on social media, showing a female traveler destroying a Nigerian Standard Passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos,” the statement read.
