Twenty-eight of them are adults and twelve minors.
They were all arrested on July 29, 2017, at Vintage Hotel, No. 999 Ikorodu Road/Toyin Close, Weigh Bridge, Owode Onirin, Lagos following a tip-off.
The minors were arraigned before Ebute-Meta Magistrates’ Court while their adult counterparts appeared before Yaba Magistrates’ Court on the same day.
The accused were admitted to bail by the two courts and were detained at Kirikiri Prison before they met their bail conditions.
Sources said while in detention, the accused were made to undergo compulsory HIV test by a non-governmental organisation that provided counseling for them, adding that nearly all of them are positive.
It was gathered that the result threw the prison authorities into a state of panic and made them to approach the courts to reduce the bails conditions.
It was further gathered that in the meantime, the prison authorities moved the accused to State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, where the police released them one after the other.
