Bishop faces investigation over alleged drug-link

The man, who was alleged to be the target of gunmen that shot dead 13 worshippers inside St Philip’s Catholic Church at Ozubulu in Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra State, Aloysius Ikegwuonwu, aka Bishop, is under the investigation of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

The investigation of the philanthropist by anti-drug agency followed several reports that trailed the killing in St Philip’s Catholic Church.

The reports described Bishop as a drug-kingpin saying a fight between him and another alleged drug lord simply identified as Obrocho over a business deal that turned sour precipitated the incident.

Despite denying reports linking him to the attack, the security agencies are said to be investigating him and some drug syndicates believed to be behind the deadly attack.

Sources said officials of NDLEA were getting cooperation from its foreign partners on their interest in ‘Bishop’ and his suspected links to drug trade in South Africa.

So also the police in Anambra were said to have interrogated him for about three hours on Thursday night.
