Former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, said an average of six thousand policemen retired from the force annually.
Shekarau, now a senator, representing Kano Central stated this in his contribution to a rancorous debate on the insecurity challenge across the country on the floor of the senate on Wednesday.
The former governor who was in sync with the call for creation of state police bemoaned the shortage of manpower in the force, claiming it was because 6,000 officers retired annually while the federal government only recruited 10,000(ten thousand) officers yearly.
In a related development, the House of Representatives has called on the security service chiefs to turn in their letters on the premise of non-performance.
The call was contained in a motion moved the Chief Whip, Mohammed Monguno moved which none of his colleagues’ positions were at variance with.
