Report said Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun is a candidate for retirement, come next year’s September.
Egbetokun, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, until yesterday announcement headed Criminal Investigation Department at the Force Headquarters.
The new Sheriff in town was one time chief security officer to President Bola Tinubu when the latter was Lagos State governor.
He is on his way out of service, according to Punchng.
It said, the Ogun-born police chief is due for retirement on September 4, 2024 when he would turn 60 years.
The civil service rule stipulates that civil servants are to retire on attainment of age 60 or having spent 35 years in service, depending on whichever comes first.
The report added, if confirmed as the IG, Tinubu would be following the footsteps of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, who appointed a police officer whose retirement date preceded his tenure in office in reference to Buhari’s appointment of former IG, Usman Baba, on April 6, 2021, while he (Baba) was expected to retire from the police on March 1, 2023, when he clocked 60 years of age.
